TALON – Teen Action Leadership in Nature Program (TALON) is a partnership with Duke Farms in conjunction with the Barrack Obama Green Charter High School. KidOutdoors, Inc. provides safe, secure and prompt transportation for student and team leaders on field trips and adventures during the school year. Supporting healthy bodies and healthy minds, KOI makes a connection to nutrition, education, food and the farm-to-table movement of supporting organic farms and eating locally grown foods. KOI curates delicious and nutritious lunches and snacks for students and team leaders. Here are some of the activities planned for this year’s TALON program:
•Behind the Scenes Science Trip to NYC Museum of Natural History
•Open Space Hiking at Delaware Water Gap and Appalachian Trail
•Full-Day Training in Tree-climbing and Horticulture
•Full-Day of hands-on Farming and Livestock Experience.
Two Week Intense Summer program – This summer, KOI will launch a new innovative summer environmental education program for Black and Hispanic children enrolled in middle school in Essex County, NJ. We’re making a promise to these children that this experience will spark their imagination and interest in the environment and the great outdoors. Campers will experience one 3 day overnight trip and 5 day trips and acquire skills they can use in their lives. They’ll explore canoe and hiking trails and complete challenges they first thought were beyond their ability. These young men will plan and carryout activities with the thoughtful guidance of the Director and other skilled adult leaders. Youth leadership, communication and teamwork will enable them to achieve their goals. The second half of the camp will include environmental day trip adventures to locations throughout New Jersey. Planned exercise and fitness activities are a part of the outdoor adventures campers will experience.
They’ll hike, paddle, climb, fish and ride. Here’s a sampling of our planned adventures:
